Family Vacay to Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island, NC, is a little slice of heaven off the coast of the southern shores of North Carolina that holds a very special place in our hearts. Tim grew up going to the island, we got engaged while kayaking around the island in 2011, and even celebrated our 2012 wedding at the Bald Head Island Club. We truly have countless wonderful memories from BHI trips!

The last time we vacationed on BHI was the summer of 2015 when I was pregnant with Charlie. To say it was special to bring our kids there for a week of fun in the sun is a massive understatement.

The island itself is so unique and magical. There are no cars on the island at all, so getting there requires a half-hour trip on the ferry from Southport, NC. Once on Bald Head, the primary mode of transportation is golf carts.

The island is the perfect combination of southern charm and nature; commercialization is at a bare minimum with the exception of a few adorable small-business shops, restaurants, and two clubs. The kids saw plenty of frogs, turtles, deer, and even the occasional alligator or snake. Palm trees and spanish moss surround all of the homes and paved paths in abundance and you feel as though you are transported to a place where time just moves a little slower. The water is clear blue, the air is so crisp and clean, and life seems simply perfect when you are on island time.

We had the best time making memories with the kids on this trip- our doodle, Ellie, even came along and had some fun! Charlie especially loved kayaking with Tim, riding his scooter all over the island, taking Ellie for a walk/swim on the Cape Fear River, and going down the slides at the BHI Club pool. Maddie loved going for ice cream at The Sandpiper in the harbor, playing with beach toys in the sand, picking out jewelry at the little shops, and making friends at the club pool.

We are so blessed to have had this time at BHI and miss the island already. 'Til next time, Bald Head!
